Biocide Free Chemicals
DUCTZ does not use any chemicals that are biocides inside the duct system. We do not spray any chemicals and attempt to kill mold or any other biological growth. Proper remediation technique is to remove the contamination from the system (source removal.) Then, depending on the type of ductwork, a preventative product with anti-microbial could be used as an option to prevent future biological growth.
Duct Board and Air Handler Insulation
For duct board and air handler insulation, we use a surface sealant such as Fiberlock 8000™ or similar material that seals the fibers in, covers the surface, and makes it smooth and non-porous. It also contains an EPA-registered active ingredient to deter future fungal activity on or in the coating.
For nonporous surfaces like flex duct, metal duct work and on the air handler components, DUCTZ uses BBJ C1 antimicrobial. The product is applied through fogging on the duct work and air handler components. The product “controls and inhibits the growth of microorganisms—such as gram positive and gram negative bacteria, and mold—that forms on the air ducts, cooling coils, and other working parts of the system.
